The unique construction method combines wood as a load-bearing element with clay for the interior fittings. Natural stone is used as a waterproof alternative for floors subject to heavy use. The natural cellars made of hewn limestone are a particular specialty, an improved alternative to the standard refrigerator. The Duffners attach great importance to sustainable construction, an optimum energy balance and their customers’ enjoyment of their new homes.
The Bergliebe house is an inspiring example of the builders’ vision of combining a love of the Alps with modern architecture and sustainable materials. The shape of the house, inspired by typical chalets with flat roofs, lends the building a contemporary elegance. The goal was clear: a modern natural log house with characteristic elements of a chalet.
Particular attention was paid to the use of clay throughout the house. The partition walls were built with clay bricks, and in the various rooms either a rubbed “Clay undercoat plaster with straw” or “YOSIMA clay designer plaster” in the colors WE 0, SC 0 or SCBR 4.3 was used. Even the basic stove, which heats the entire house, was given a natural look. “Clay block NF” were used in the roof to reduce radiation exposure.
The shower was designed using a spatula technique, and the clever combination of natural wood and clay creates a healthy and pleasant indoor climate. Bergliebe is not just a house, but a living example of the successful synthesis of modern living comfort, alpine tradition and ecological responsibility.
