Available
Clay is an almost infinitely available raw material found in nature. ClayTec does not need to dig its own pits to extract clay: the clay we use is a so-called secondary raw material, which is available as a surface layer from the extraction of gravel and sand, among other things.
Low energy
The use of energy required for the production of building materials determines the majority of greenhouse emissions and therefore the carbon footprint. Time is of the essence: according to the UN Environment Program’s “Global Status Report for Building and Construction”, the construction and building sector accounts for 40% of global CO2 emissions. Clay building materials have their great strength here. A number of ClayTec products are even climate-positive due to their CO2-storing plant fiber content.
Circular
A decisive factor for the sustainability and future viability of building materials is their potential for recovery. Mineral building materials are usually crushed and used for subordinate applications, e.g. in road construction. This is called “recycling”, but we should actually speak of “downcycling”. Clay building materials, on the other hand, are recycled or even simply reused.
Healthy
A good indoor climate is created by balancing breathable surfaces and thermal heat storage mass. Clay can absorb large amounts of humidity and release it again when dry, and can also neutralize odours. Its thermal storage mass provides both heat protection in summer and comfortable heating. This creates feel-good rooms. This also includes good sound insulation.
Historic
A large part of our historic building fabric is made of clay. For 40 years, we at ClayTec have been the professionals for the preservation of historical monuments and in particular for the renovation of timber-framed buildings, for which we were honored with the German Prize for Monument Protection in 1997. With safe and efficient interior insulation and wall surface heating, we are also your contact for energy-efficient refurbishment.
